Dysport

Dysport is an injectable product that is similar to Botox in the way it works. Its process is quite similar as it helps to relax the muscles known to cause wrinkles on the skin such as crow feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.

Dysport was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009 for cosmetic use in the US.

How Dysport works - Procedure and recovery

As a rejuvenation treatment, Dysport helps in reducing those specific muscle activity that causes frown lines (wrinkles). These wrinkles are caused by repeated muscle movements and contractions.

Dysport treatment is typically very fast and usually only lasts 10-20 mins. Most of the users start to see improvements within 2- 3 days after the treatment with results lasting up to 3 months, although these results vary from each individual.

Generally, most individuals do not need any sedation or anesthetic for this procedure. Sometimes ice or topical numbing cream can be applied to help the patient with uncomfortable sensations.

After the procedure, patients can easily return back to their daily activities faster due to minimal downtime. Although there is no recovery time needed, you will be given instructions for post-care at your appointment, which are minimal but important.

Dysport Uses

  • Dysport can be used for both cosmetics and medical reasons such as:

  • Treatment of muscle spasms otherwise known as stiffness in the upper limbs and lower limbs

  • Aids in the temporary reduction of wrinkles on the face especially on the forehead

  • Treatment of severe spasms in the neck muscles

  • Helps to achieve a natural facial expression without changing the look of the rest of your face.

Important things to know about Dysport

Dysport targets the glabella lines, which are the vertical wrinkles located on the forehead. These frown lines start to develop in between the eyebrows during early adulthood and begin to become prominent as the skin ages due to decreased elasticity.

The average cost of Dysport varies as it is injected by “units.” Some individuals will need more or less units than others, which makes these types of treatments ideal as they can be customized to each individual.

Duration can last several months, but follow up treatments are needed to retain the desired results. This is the case with all of these types of injectables.

Side effects for cosmetic use are typically minimal, with the most common ones being bruising or slight redness at the injection site. However, these are generally transient and go away quickly.

There isn't an “ideal” age to start treatment with a product like Dysport. Most individuals will notice the lines beginning to form in the upper face and request a consultation with our expert medical injectors to see if this treatment is right for them. We recommend speaking with either of our expert injectors, Trisha or Susie, in regards to any questions you have about injectables or medical aesthetics. They will be able to guide you into a treatment plan that works for you and your goals.
